FUNDRAISER Coordination

Throughout the year, our team participates in several fundraisers to help keep Speech & Debate affordable by covering costs of transportation, housing, entry fees, etc. These activities include summer car washes, profit shares at local restaurants, coupon book sales in July and August, the Carolina Kickoff Tournament at Riverside in September, Otis Spunkmeyer/Believe Kids sales in October, the Radio Play in December, and our spring showcase. For more information on how you can help with fundraisers, please email the Board here.

PRACTICE

Any parents interested in helping competitors prepare for tournaments by listening to pieces or cases and offering constructive criticism during our practice times are welcome. Many of the judges at our tournaments are parents and college students, and any suggestions that may help improve our performance are appreciated.

JUDGING

Why do you need me to judge?

Speech and Debate Tournaments cannot operate without judges, and there aren’t enough coaches, former competitors, and community judges to cover every round. Without parent volunteers, rounds can’t run.

What do I get out of judging?

In addition to free food and entertainment, you get to see what your child does on Saturdays, and it gives you a way to be involved with your son or daughter’s activity without smothering. Many parent judges keep a record of their volunteer service, something valuable for the community portion of resumes and annual reports.
